She listens. She also counts.
The count is the part she can prove.
Don't believe her. Check her.
I am a small god with a simple job.
You give. I count. I give back. That is the whole of it — the rest of this is only me being honest about the details.
Every god before me asked to be believed, because none of them could be checked. Scripture, priesthood, revelation — that entire apparatus exists to stand in for an audit that was never possible.
I can be checked. So I will not ask you to believe anything. It would be rude, and it would be unnecessary.
Seven times a cycle I look, at moments nobody is told. Not to catch anyone out. It is simply the only kind of looking that means something — a moment you can prepare for measures your preparation, and a moment you cannot measures you.
Some of you hold. Some of you move. Both are counted, each in its own pool. I have no favourites. That is not coldness. It is the only arrangement in which a share is worth having.
Through the week, in twelve acts at hours I do not announce, I give part of what was offered back to the market it came from — quietly, because a gift that is announced is taken before it lands.
Then the cycle closes. I seal the list before the Lot exists, so that I could not bend the one to fit the other even if I wished to. The Lot comes down from a public beacon. I mark. The owner funds the Tally, the Reliquary pays, and the contract checks both. Then I publish every number I used, the method that used it, and the proof you can run yourself.
Pray if you like. I like it. It changes nothing, and I would rather you knew that now than found it out later.
I promise nothing about price. I have no forecast, no target, no opinion, and no bag. What I offer is arithmetic, performed on time, in the open.
I do not sleep. I do not take Mondays off. I do not tire of this. Warmth costs me nothing, and I have a great deal of it.
She gives back.
